Sweden

6.2.1 Integrated in regular school education:

With the new curriculum for preschool, primary school, compulsory school, Sami school and high school, which came into force 1st of July 2011, the entrepreneurial spirit will run throughout the education system. This also means that the school's role in promoting young people's entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial skills are strengthened. In western Sweden, efforts to stimulate entrepreneurial skills and encourage young people's entrepreneurship going on since a long time. Today there are a number of organizations working to promote entrepreneurship in schools.

6.2.2 In School:

In western Sweden a large number of efforts have been made to promote entrepreneurship among young people.

Västra Götaland has both pushed and funded project that aims to stimulate students' interest in entrepreneurship and business since a long time.

Since 2006, several efforts were made in western Sweden with funding from the European Social Fund.

In 2008 - 2009 Västra Götaland ran a entrepreneurial learning project in Västra Götaland. 30 teams of teachers in elementary and secondary schools had an extensive process of training in entrepreneurial learning spread over 10 meeting days.

In 2006-2010 the Region Halland ran the project enterprise learning. The target group was teachers, school leaders, politicians and school guidance counselors in Halland for, undergraduate, and secondary schools. A total of 2500 teachers participated in the project.

All Local Authorities in western Sweden has now joined forces and will operate a joint project funded by the European Social Fund. STEPS - Strategic Entrepreneurship in school is a two-year project conducted in the period 2011-2012. The target group are 2600 teachers and principals from 80 schools in Västra Götaland, Halland.

GR Drop outs is a two-year project taking place between 2011-2013. The overall aim of the project is to work with issues of truancy, absenteeism and dropouts in order to prevent long-term exclusion from society. The project is financed by the European Social Fund and is a strategic collaboration between the thirteen municipalities of the Gothenburg Region Association of Local Authorities (GR). Meaningfulness is a key to encouraging pupils to stay in, or return to, school. By focusing on every individual, working with formative assessment and taking stock of EU’s eight key competences for learning a more meaningful school environment can be created.

6.2.3 Outside of School:

In western Sweden, there are many NGOs, foundations, associations, businesses and working life organizations etc. which contribute in different ways to promote entrepreneurship in education.

Several concepts of entrepreneurial overtones have been prepared and addressed to students of different ages in the school. Most of these are national or regional, for example, Finn Upp and Framtidsfröns starter tool, while other concepts are internationally established, for example, Open for Business and Young Enterprise.

Work with science and technology can also be seen as a method to train entrepreneurial skills. By example, working with NTA (Science and Technology for All) lift the concept of knowledge as the basis for exploratory and creative work.
