Spain

MOST RELEVANT ECONOMIC SECTORS:

Primary Sector: (Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry and Fisheries): 2.5% GDP and 4.7% Employment.

Secondary Sector: (Industry & Energy): 15.3% GDP and 14.6% Employment.

Construction sector: 10.2% GDP and 9.3% Employment.

Tertiary Sector: (Services, Trade, Tourism. Banking, Health, Public Administration, Education, etc..): 72.0% GDP and 71.4% Employment.

Employment destruction is occurring mainly among industrial and construction sectors. Agriculture appears more resilient, and services show a more ambiguous trend, because it is affected by the cyclical nature of tourism and the growth of employment in some non-market activities (health, education, public administration).

Focus on occupations, there is a widespread employment destruction, excepting some services occupations that require very specific qualifications: health, business activities, social services, security. Those jobs that require no qualifications (and related skilled building) are those who are suffering more losses.

EMPLOYMENT SECTOR EVOLUTION (2008 -2010).

Although job losses in Spain has been widespread (in three years have been lost more than 2 million jobs), has not affected alike to all productive sectors. In agriculture have been destroyed more than 60,000 jobs, going from the 864,000 that existed in early 2008 to 804,000 in the fourth quarter of 2010. Employment trends in the industry shows a profile very negative, with an elimination of more than 690,000 jobs (3.3 million occupied at the beginning of 2008 have been reduced to 2.6 million at the beginning of 2011). The destruction of employment is even stronger in construction, with 1.1 million jobs lost in the last three years. In the service sector job losses has not been so pronounced. In three years 150,000 jobs have been destroyed.
