Supporting influences

The variety of activities that can be organised, both inside and outside school; their efficiency is depended upon the teacher, how active he/she is, innovative and eager to pilot educational materials.

The presence of agents outside school, for example Junior Achievement, the Youth Secretariat, the Chamber of Commerce etc., that engage the school community to activities related to career management and entrepreneurial skills.

Possible obstacles when implementing new learning goals

The lack of certification for the practice of Career Counselling. The National Centre of Career Counselling (E.K.E.P.) is responsible for the certification, but the procedure has not been completed yet.

The Greek education system offers poor training to Career Counsellors and to the people who work in Ke.Sy.Ps and GraSeps, whereas the number of counsellors in proportion to the number of students is small. Teachers of secondary education who teach the lesson of Career Guidance usually want to fill their weekly timetable and they usually have participated only in few seminars of Career Counselling.

The way in which the lesson of Career Guidance is carried out, without examinations and marks, makes the lesson ineffective. This is caused by the above lack of education/training of teachers and generally by the Greek attitude, which imposes that some lessons are more significant than others.
