Youth Entrepreneurship Support Structures

The General Secretariat of Youth (GSoY) is currently implementing the Youth Entrepreneurship Support Structures (YESS), through which students can get all the necessary help and support to create their own enterprise. Through the “Youth Entrepreneurship Support Structures” project GSoY attempts an intervention where the greater obstacle to youth entrepreneurship expression arises, summarized in the following:

a. The general entrepreneurial culture or mentality.

b. The practical barriers holding back young individual’s endeavours to start a business enterprise

By setting up one support structure in every capital region and by placing emphasis on extrovert communication GSoY aims to approach young people

a. Through visits and presentations in many educational units

b. Through productive use of the internet for access on information

c. Through competitions – virtual enterprises games attempt an essential intervention aiming to promote entrepreneurship Source: http://www.neagenia.gr/frontoffice/portal.asp?cpage=RESOURCE&cresrc=132&cnode=31&clang=1.

The "Entrepreneurship Spirit” is an ambitious project aimed at promoting entrepreneurship in secondary schools and creating an effective link between education and business environment. The program is funded by the European Commission under the pilot program Leonardo Da Vinci II for training. The outcomes of the project are a Web-site, a Cd-Rom, and a Video Tape which will be piloted in secondary schools in Greece. These tools make use of Information and Communication Technologies and facilitate the access of special population groups in training on entrepreneurship. They also contain examples of successful entrepreneurs in competitive sectors and industries Source: http://www.sch.gr/96-announces/491-145old.

Youth Entrepreneurship Observatory

Having access to valid and structured information about the entrepreneurial environment and the state of the market and economy is an issue of immense importance for every business enterprise. Therefore, in order to ensure that the young people and all interested parties are adequately informed, it is promoted the establishment of the Youth Entrepreneurial Observatory institution. The whole project is part of the ÅPÅÁÅÊ ÉÉ operational program and is co-funded by the European Union.

6.2.3 Outside of School:

The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) Source: http://greecechamber.org/?l=t&pageStewardLink=8704

In 2010, the Greek Chamber of Commerce became the 2nd Chamber of Commerce in the country to offer a ground-breaking, dynamic program to area high schoolers from Greece, Hilton and Spencerport Schools. The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) began in 2004 at the University of Rochester, with grant support from the Kauffman Foundation. This intensive entrepreneurship training program guides high school students through the process of starting and running a legitimate business or social movement over the course of a full academic year. In its first four years, YEA! grew beyond the college-based setting to include public high schools. In 2008, YEA!, Inc. was formed for the purpose of making the YEA! program available to the target demographic of students in grades 6 through 12 (ages 11 to 18) throughout the entire United States. The program takes students through the entire process of setting up their own, real business. Starting with idea generation and vetting the students learn how to write a business plan, make a pitch for funding (with real money at stake) and eventually visit the County Clerk's office to officially register their new business! All along the way the students hear from guest speakers, business mentors, investors and field trip hosts who have tons of useful information to help them along in their journey.
