The youth unemployment rates have been increasing since 2008. The table below shows the rates within the age groups 16-24 years and 25-29 years. Regarding the age group 25-29 years, the unemployment rates are higher than the general unemployment rates, for the younger age group (16-24 years) it is lower. The figure below shows the Youth unemployment rates in Denmark (2007 – 2011):

As a result of a comprehensive plan targeted toward young people in Denmark – the so-called Youth package (Ungepakke 2) – the Government introduced a number of new initiatives which aimed at helping young people to get enrolled in education or enter into the job market. The overall purpose of the Youth package is to increase the number of youngsters who completes an upper secondary education and/or to enhance young people´s opportunity to gain foothold at the labour market.
