Health status among young people is generally good. If you ask young people the majority of them think that they have good health. Nearly 80 per cent expect their general state of health to be very or fairly well. But at the same time 40 per cent say that they either have stomach ache, headache or problems with sleep several times a week. Young women are feeling considerably worse than the young men. The young women are taking more anti-depressants, sedatives and sleeping drugs than the young men. They have more somatic diagnoses in health care and they claim to have more stress-related disorders. Young people's financial situation and the linkage with the labor market also affects health. Both men and women with concerns about the economy and employment are less healthy than other youths. It is especially important if you have difficulty to meet your current expenses, and if you can get financial help from relatives (Source: Fokus 07, The Swedish National Board for Youth Affairs).
